In addition, we have computed different regression models relating land-surface emissivity (LSE) in the SEVIRI thermal infrared (TIR) bands to LSE in MODIS bands. The obtained equations allow deriving LSE in SEVIRI TIR bands as a linear combination of emissivities retrieved from 5-km MODIS LSE product in order to be used as input to the developed SW algorithm.

Land-surface emissivity maps based on MSG/SEVIRI information
Retrieval of land-surface temperature (LST) using data from MSG/SEVIRI requires adequate estimates of land-surface emissivity (LSE). In this context LSE maps for SEVIRI channels IR3.9, IR8.7, IR10.8, and IR12.0 were developed based on the vegetation cover method. A broadband LSE map (3-14 μm) was also developed for estimating long-wave surface fluxes that may prove to be useful in both energy b...

A procedure is presented that allows using information from the MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor to improve the quality of emissivity maps for the Meteosat Second Generation/Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager (SEVIRI) currently in use as input to a generalized split window (SW) algorithm for land-surface temperature (LST) retrievals in the operational chai...
متن کاملAn Angular and Emissivity Dependent Algorithm to Determine Sea Surface Temperature from Msg-seviri Data
A frequent and high-accuracy determination of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) would permit an improvement in the forecasting of natural hazards and the monitoring of the effects of climate change. The Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager (SEVIRI) on board the geostationary METEOSAT Second Generation (MSG) platforms offers this possibility. Algorithms for SST retrieval from MSGSEVIRI data...
متن کاملPreliminary Results on the Retrieval of Land Surface Temperature from Msg-seviri Data in Eastern Spain
A preliminary comparison between the Land Surface Temperature (LST) product generated by the LSA SAF and ground measurements carried out in an extensive, flat, unstressed, fully-covering rice field site showed an LST error larger than ±2K. Since then, several issues have been investigated with the aim of reducing error sources in the retrieval of LST from MSG-SEVIRI in Eastern Spain: a) a metho...
متن کاملEstimation of Diurnal Cycle of Land Surface Temperature at High Temporal and Spatial Resolution from Clear-Sky MODIS Data
The diurnal cycle of land surface temperature (LST) is an important element of the climate system. Geostationary satellites can provide the diurnal cycle of LST with low spatial resolution and incomplete global coverage, which limits its applications in some studies. In this study, we propose a method to estimate the diurnal cycle of LST at high temporal and spatial resolution from clear-sky MO...
